Local military historian, retired infantry lieutenant colonel and battlefield guide, Peter Sweeney, will be presenting another of his popular military history talks on The Battle of Hamel (4 July 1918). Planned and commanded by Lieutenant General John Monash, this was a highly successful attack against German positions by the Australian Army and US Army infantry with support from British tanks and was the first ‘combined arms’ battle in military history. Monash's calculated battle time was 90 minutes and all of the Allies objectives were achieved within 93 minutes. Event includes afternoon tea. Time: 2pm. Free entry. Bookings are essential.
