Go wild in comfort in the beautiful Megalong Valley

Two rustic cabins that once provided basic shelter for pack saddlers in the Blue Mountains have been refurbished to provide a unique holiday experience for adventurers and nature lovers seeking a remote getaway with modern luxuries.

The newly updated Galong Cabins are set in Megalong Valley near the beautiful Dunphys Campground, which is home to wombats, kangaroos and wedge-tailed eagles.

Each cabin features a full kitchen, hot water showers, reverse cycle air conditioning and a slow combustion fire.

The cabins boast spectacular views from the verandah.

Acting National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) Blue Mountains Branch Director Glenn Meade said holidaymakers would be able to enjoy a comfortable stay while accessing wilderness walks to the stunning Kanangra Walls, the Six Foot walking track or fishing along the Cox’s River.

“The cabins are set in a remote but extremely beautiful spot in Blue Mountains National Park, which is less than an hour’s drive from the mountain villages of Katoomba and Blackheath,” he said.

“Dunphys Campground is a great starting point for remote Blue Mountains walks in the Wild Dog mountains such as Splendour Rock, Mobbs Swamp, Tarros Ladders and Carlon Head."

“These two-bedroom cabins allow visitors the chance to go off the grid – as there is no Wi-Fi – while retaining comforts such as heating, cooling, comfortable beds and a well-equipped kitchen."

“This type of accommodation will let visitors who don’t having camping gear explore all the walks, adventures and nature this picturesque area is famous for.”

Each cabin has been named by the Gundungurra traditional owners after local trees – Wirruumba, which means Stringybark, and Durrumbyang, which means Big White gum.

Wirruumba and Durrumbyang can each accommodate four guests and are set 100 metres apart, making them perfect for larger  groups wishing to book both cabins.

Visitors can make a booking to enjoy Galong Cabins from 16 September 2022 by visiting the NPWS website.
